MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine authorities has established contingency plans in case China proceeds with reclamation actions in Bajo de Masinloc or Scarborough Shoal within the West Philippine Sea, a transfer thought to be considered one of its “purple strains.”

The Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad, made the revelation when requested if the navy is prepared in case China begins to reclaim Bajo de Masinloc.

“Sure there are purple strains given by the federal government, considered one of these is the no reclamation on Bajo de Masinloc the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) [and] the Philippine Navy have applicable contingency plans in place within the occasion that that is violated,” the Navy official stated in a press convention on Tuesday.

Requested once more what would occur if this “purple line” was violated, Trinidad reiterated: “These are purple strains. Non-negotiable. Now we have applicable contingency plans with the AFP to handle that.”

In March final yr, the Navy official stated China couldn’t take away the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal, as the federal government additionally considers this a “purple line.”

Beijing’s continued aggression was primarily based on its assertion of sovereignty over nearly the complete South China Sea, together with many of the West Philippine Sea, because it continues to reject the 2016 arbitral ruling that successfully dismissed its claims and dominated in favor of Manila.

The landmark ruling stemmed from a case filed by Manila in 2013, a yr after its tense standoff with Beijing over Panatag Shoal, whose lagoon the latter now successfully controls.
